Life at 35,000 feet looks and feels much different than when my feet are planted firmly on the ground. A fresh perspective and the white noise of jet engines as I peer through my window seat aboard an Airbus 320 are a welcome respite from the chaos below.
While this image might have easily been captured over the Atlantic Ocean, somewhere between the United States and Europe, I'm actually headed the opposite direction. Taken over the Gulf of Mexico enroute from Orlando to Houston, I know in my mind that the Gulf Coast shoreline is just off the end of that winglet tip.
Each of our paths through life might be different, as the other plane and contrail in this image represent. Regardless of which direction we're headed, however, we all share a common space along our individual journeys, filled with challenges: the same but also different.
As calm and serene as the water looks below, the mind can't help but consider the swells and undulations below that the eye can't perceive from this altitude. And it's easy to get consumed by that sense of chaos. But sometimes it's best to let that hazy horizon between solid ground and turbulent sea melt together into one.
Widen your view and take in the big picture. Save some time to sit back, relax, and enjoy the flight.
